Sake Set for Two in Sediment 002
This sake set combines two small nerikomi cups and a freeform nerikomi flask. The flask features a small neck to keep heated sake warm, and a unique ‘pinched’ shape to fit snugly in the hand.
Nerikomi is a technique whereby different coloured clays are sandwiched together to make patterns then cut into slabs for handbuilding. This vessel uses this technique to mimic the striations in rocks, or the ripples in a bubbling brook. After firing, the surface is sanded to a fine silky finish. The interior of the flask is glazed in a matte white glaze making it completely watertight.
All ‘sediment’ vessels are finished on the exterior with Liquid Quartz, a non-toxic water-based sealer that makes unglazed ceramic wares food safe, waterproof and stain resistant (you can see its water repellent properties in the final image).
Flask: (h) 145mm x (w) 65mm x (d) 63mm / 200ml
Cups: ⌀ 60mm x (h) 42mm / 45ml
